Danish School, The Painter’s Workshop

Danish School, The Painter’s Workshop

A colourful mid-20th-century depiction of the artist’s studio. Here we see her, with palette in hand, sat at two easels and working from a study.

We love the bold use of colour throughout - particularly the two strong vertical shapes in orange and red. And if you look closely, you’ll notice an area to the left of the figure where the artist changed her mind.

The painting is signed, maybe Bruno, in the lower right and housed within a frame that’s possibly its original.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 23” x 26½” / 58cm x 67cm
Year of creation: c. 1958
Provenance: Sweden
Condition: Very presentable overall. Frame with some light wear.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
