Dark Portrait Of A Gentleman With A ‘Pork Pie’ Hat

Regular price £595.00

DESCRIPTION

An enigmatic early 20th-century portrait of a smartly-dressed Scandinavian gentleman.

The figure is quite dark so it’s tricky to examine his headwear closely, but it appears that he’s wearing a ‘pork pie’ hat atop a thick mass of wavy black hair. The pork pie hat began life around 1830 but was only generally worn by women. But in the 1920s, thanks to Buster Keaton, men also began donning these stylish headpieces.

The portrait is housed within an appropriate later frame.

You only pay for the cost of the actual frame (usually £30 - £50) as we include the labour for free.
