Hans Wohlrab, Portrait Of A Gentleman With A Lady

Regular price £395.00

DESCRIPTION

A characterful portrait of a cheerful bearded gentleman (possibly the artist) with a cigar, hat, and a wine glass, alongside a young lady looking over her right shoulder.

Hans Wohlrab (1905-1978) was a German painter, draftsman, and porcelain designer that studied at the Munich Academy. As a talented multi-disciplinarian, he’s known for his paintings and his porcelain designs in equal measure.

In this particular work, he’s used a mixture of different brushstrokes to great effect. Areas of the gentleman’s face have been painted using thick confident brushstrokes, whereas the lady has been painted a little finer.

The painting is housed within a good contemporary frame and signed in the lower right.
