Simone De Dardel, Still Life With Flowers

Simone De Dardel, Still Life With Flowers

An expressive 20th-century interior scene with flowers by Swedish artist, Simone Gerda Charlotta de Dardel-Kihlman (1913-1996). This energetic little piece was painted with a broad brush and plenty of confidence. Perhaps it’s a room she knew well.

De Dardel-Kihlman studied at the École des Beaux Arts de Genève and also at Otte Sköld’s school in Stockholm. Like many painters of her generation, she also undertook several study trips to Europe including to France and Italy.

She exhibited widely, sometimes alongside her husband Kjell Löwenadler, and she’s represented at various museums including the National Museum, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, and the Kalmar Art Museum.

The painting is signed and dated in the lower left.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
