Olof Walfrid Nilsson, Lapland, On The Road To Abisko

Olof Walfrid Nilsson, Lapland, On The Road To Abisko

A beautiful early 20th-century landscape painting depicting a mountainous view in Lapland by Swedish painter, Olof Walfrid Nilsson (1868-1956).

It’s titled ‘On The Road To Abisko’, which relates to a small village with fewer than 100 inhabitants. Abisko is also home to one of Sweden’s largest lakes, Torneträsk.

Olof Walfrid Nilsson was known for his dreamlike, somewhat mystical, landscape paintings of Lapland and the surrounding areas. He was born in Värmland county and he’s represented at the Norrköping Art Museum.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a frame that could be its original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
