A captivating landscape painting with pine trees and distant buildings by British painter, Daniel Sherrin (1868-1942).

The pines take our eyes upwards from the foliage in the foreground towards the beautiful evening sky, which is dappled with clouds. The trees frame a small crop of buildings that are nestled into the distant woodland. While on the right, the undulant landscape gradually disappears from view - with Sherrin increasing the lightness with every layer.

Daniel Sherrin was born in Brentford, Essex and was trained by his father, John Sherrin - a flower and still life painter. He was a keen follower of Benjamin Williams Leader (1831-1923) and painted in a similar style. It’s possible that he knew Leader well because Sherrin’s son, Reginald (1891-1971), was trained by him.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a good later frame.
