Carsten Henrichsen, Rural Landscape With Children

Carsten Henrichsen, Rural Landscape With Children

A fine 19th-century landscape painting depicting two children walking along a rural track under a bright sky. The artist, Carsten Henrichsen (1824-1897), has captured the scenery perfectly and we particularly like the building on the left, which provides balance to the composition.

Henrichsen trained at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen and received the Neuhausen Award in 1855. He often painted scenes along the Danish coastline and his works are held in private collections worldwide.

The painting is monogrammed in the lower right, dated, and housed within a 19th-century gilded frame that’s probably the original.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 25” x 19½” / 64cm x 50cm
Year of creation: 1862
Provenance: Denmark
Condition: Overall very presentable. Craquelure but the paint is stable. One repair. Frame with some light age-related wear.
Artist’s auction highlight: £3,624 achieved for ‘Fredriksberg Castle, Denmark’ at auction in 2018.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
