    This early 20th-century watercolour by British artist Thomas Capel Walton Smith (1901-1994) depicts a young lady dressed to impress.

    She carries an expression of quiet defiance, strong in her armour, confident in the face of societal judgement. Her chin is lifted and fears are cast asunder.

    Smith produced this work early in his career. Perhaps he knew the subject well.

    Signed bottom right, framed and glazed.
