Portrait Study Of A Girl

This charming 19th-century Swedish watercolour depicts a girl with her back partially turned. She’s characterised by a large blue bow and what appears to be a red sash.

It’s a sensitive piece, quickly rendered, against a green background. Perhaps the artist knew the sitter? Their daughter maybe?

Signed/dated in the lower right and framed.

Medium: Watercolour on paper
Overall size: 13½” x 15” / 35cm x 38cm
Year of creation: 1877
Condition: Artwork presents well. Frame with some light wear.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
