19th-Century Danish School, Kitchen Interior With Woman

19th-Century Danish School, Kitchen Interior With Woman

A fine late 19th-century Danish interior scene depicting a woman making tea in a kitchen. We adore this piece for its stillness, charm and quiet introspection.

What time of the day do you think it is? Note how the window is illuminated in contrast to the room. Perhaps it’s dawn and this is her first cup of the day?

This beautiful painting is unsigned but it’s almost certainly by an artist that trained at the Royal Danish Academy. The composition is balanced and intelligent while the attention to detail is exquisite.

The canvas is housed within a period frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
