Pastoral Scene With Shepherd

This charming early 20th-century pastoral scene by Danish artist Knud Sinding (1875-1946) captures a restful moment for a young shepherd.

As he stands before a far-reaching view, he plays a tune on the harmonica. His faithful dog looks on.

Sinding was an accomplished artist and particularly well-versed at capturing the abundant effects of light. Here, we see a Summertime coastal vista drenched in radiant tints. You can almost feel the heat emanating - and perhaps even hear that harmonica.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
