Edvard Lehmann, Landscape With Older Gentleman

Edvard Lehmann, Landscape With Older Gentleman

A fine late 19th-century oil on canvas depicting an older gentleman walking along a track through a heath landscape. The artist, Edvard Lehmann (1815-1892), has captured his posture nicely and used an array of skilfully considered marks to create the piece.

Lehmann studied at the Royal Danish Academy in his hometown of Copenhagen. He’s known predominantly for his interior scenes and he also worked at the Royal Danish Theatre as a costume draughtsman.

The painting is monogrammed in the lower left and housed within a gilded frame with a name plaque.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
