Fritz Kraul, Interior Scene With Older Woman Writing

Fritz Kraul, Interior Scene With Older Woman Writing

A fine early 20th-century oil on canvas depicting an older woman writing by the light of an oil lamp. The artist, Fritz Kraul (1862-1935), has captured every detail with the utmost care and attention. Note the patterned chairs, which cast long shadows across the floor in the foreground. And the flickers of light from the gilded frames on the wall.

Kraul trained at the Royal Danish Academy and was a master of atmospheric interior scenes. His works have been exhibited internationally including in Paris and at the Royal Art Museum in Berlin.

The painting is signed/dated in the lower right.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
